I believe that there is a subtle magnetism
in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it,
will direct us aright. - Henry David Thoreau
When I first came to the United States from Russia in 2002 I discovered a new life for my son and me. We found a community on the Monterey Peninsula that we could call home - an inspiring place surrounded by beautiful nature. For me, I have felt an even greater sense of fulfillment and pleasure from my new home because I do not forget where I came from - I do not forget the world that my parents introduced to me - on camping trips deep in the forest, fishing on the small lake near our town, and farming our own fruit and vegetables. Working hard, having little, and not being consumed with physical possessions and technology as a child, I found enjoyment in the gifts that our earth has given us. Simple things, like watching patterns that insects make skimming the waters of a pond, or feeling the texture of a beautiful tree's bark under my fingers, or inhaling an aroma of a wild flower on a summer day made me feel happy and connected to the earth. Ever since, I have always been inspired and moved by the textures, colors and shapes that nature creates so effortlessly. Nature truly is the ultimate Artist.
My metalwork is a natural way for me to express my appreciation for this beauty that surrounds us. Having passion for stones, I have been collecting the most beautiful, unique and rare ones from all over the world. In my jewelry making process, I let the 'personality' of each stone guide me to the creation of the piece around it. Following my intuition, I create a piece, entirely by hand, sometimes raw and rustic, sometimes modern and minimal, but each one is unique and has a story to tell - a story of the union between an Art and Nature. I hope that through my work you, too, can feel happy and connected to the beauty of the Universe.
